*** BEWARE HOAX EMAIL ***

We have been alerted to a particularly nasty hoax email which is being received by patients around the country, indicating that it is from NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) and informing the patient that their recent blood test has shown that they may have cancer.  It asks patients to open the attachment to see the full results. If the patient opens the attachment, there is the danger that a computer virus will get access to their personal information, including passwords, etc.

The email is fraudulent and is nothing to do with NICE.

The press and Met Police have been informed.

Please do contact the Practice if this issue raises serious concerns for you about a recent blood test you may have had.

HOW INFORMATION ABOUT YOU HELPS PROVIDE BETTER CARE

(Care data)

****Latest news ... Care Data Implementation delayed until Autumn 2014 ***

Confidential information from your medical records can be used by the NHS (Health and Social Care Information Centre) to improve the services offered so that the best possible care can be provided for everyone.  This information, along with your postcode and NHS Number, but not your name, are sent to a secure system where it can be linked with other health information.  This allows those planning NHS services or carrying out medical research to use information from different parts of the NHS in a way which does not identify you.

YOU HAVE A CHOICE

If you are happy for your information to be used in this way you do not have to do anything.  If you have any concerns or wish to prevent this from happening, please speak to practice staff or ask at reception for a copy of the leaflet "How information about you helps us to provide better care".

More information can also be found at www.nhs.uk/caredata

Please click here for a copy of the Information Leaflet

Please click here for a copy of the Question and Answer sheet
