If you contact the Practice to arrange a MEDICALLY URGENT (same day) appointment, or you need urgent advice, you will be asked for a telephone contact number and our "triage doctor or nurse" will then call you back. The doctor or nurse will discuss your health problems and plan with you the best course of action, which may be to come to the surgery straightaway, to come to the surgery at a later time that morning or afternoon, or to attend tomorrow or the next day.  Alternatively, you may be offered telephone advice, or be issued with a prescription, or be advised to have investigations such as blood or urine tests before seeing the doctor or nurse.  You may be asked to come to the surgery to see one of our nurses who are trained in seeing patients with a minor illness. Our doctors and nurses are skilled in telephone triage.

A MEDICALLY URGENT request takes priority over your other commitments, such as work or school.

Please report to reception on arrival to record this on the computer and use our check-in screens. This lets the doctor or nurse know that you are there. If you cannot keep an appointment, please let us know so that the slot can be offered to someone else.

For non-urgent matters, you may wish to book a "Telephone Consultation" with your own doctor, or any other doctor at the Practice.  This is useful for patients who may not wish to take time out of work or have travel difficulties and are happy to discuss with the doctor their healthcare concerns.    Please ask our receptionist for booking details.

Online Appointments

When you book an appointment online you will receive confirmation which you can print off and bring with you when you attend the surgery. There is no need to reconfirm.

Extended Hours

Extended hours are intended to offer our patients an opportunity to attend for a routine, pre-bookable appointment outside our normal core working hours (8.00 a.m. – 6.30 p.m.).

Our extended hours are either:

Monday, Tuesday or Thursday evenings (6.30pm - 8pm)

Saturday mornings (8.30am - 12pm)

For this months extended hours schedule please see the front page of the website.

The Practice offers extended hours on a weekday evening, each week, alternating at our Goring and Woodcote surgeries. Practice Nurse Stella Mitchell also provides appointments on two evening surgeries per month - please see current month extended hours schedule on the front page of the website or contact our reception for more details.

The Practice also offers extended hours on a Saturday morning, every other week, alternating between our Goring and Woodcote Surgeries. Once a month, Practice Nurse Team Leader Jenny O'Connor also provides a Saturday morning session - please see front page of our website for current month dates or contact our reception for more details.

The Practice is not expected to take over the care of patients who, during the extended hours period, would normally have sought help and advice from NHS 111 or the 999 emergency service.

Reception staff will not, under any circumstances, make a clinical decision about patient care – and will always seek advice from the doctor on duty.

Home visits will not be undertaken by the Practice doctors during the extended hours period. Patients should seek advice and help from the Out of Hours Service, as is the usual procedure for requests outside our core hours of 8.00 a.m. – 6.30 p.m.

The front desk is staffed by a receptionist during the extended hours sessions, but the phones remain “diverted”, with the usual message re-directing patients to the Out of Hours Service.

Dispensary staff will not be available during the extended hours period, though patients may pick up a pre-prepared prescription during this time from the reception desk.
