Free NHS Health Checks available at the Practice NOW !!
This check is part of a national scheme to help prevent the onset of health problems such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, kidney disease or a stroke. Everyone between the ages of 40 and 74 who has not been diagnosed with the conditions mentioned above will be invited for a check once every five years. Even if you're feeling well, it's worth having your NHS Health Check now. We can then work with you to lower your chances of developing these health problems in the future. This is a rolling 5 year programme so not all eligible patients will have their check in the first year of the service running. An information leaflet explaining all about the new FREE NHS Health Checks is available to view and download (please see below). Please contact the surgery to book your NHS Health Check.
We would ask that you do not book your appointment online as the team will need to book you into one of the NHS Health Check identified appointments which are not available via our website. Thank you.

Blood Pressure Home Monitoring
If your blood pressure has been recorded as being between 140/90 and 180/110 and has been measured on two occasions during a single consultation, your doctor may wish you to monitor this using one of our Home Blood Pressure Machines. These machines are issued to patients on a loan basis (a deposit of £10 is required), together with an instruction/recording sheet. Please click here for a copy of this sheet.
Women between the ages of 25 and 49 years will be offered an appointment with the nurse every three years, and women between 50 and 64 years will be recalled every five years. Guidelines may be subject to change.
A full range of advice on contraception is available from your doctor or the practice nurse. Coil fitting is done by Dr Rowe at Woodcote. Emergency contraception is also available. If this is needed, the surgery should be contacted as soon as possible for advice.
Long Term Conditions
The nurses share with the doctors in the care of patients who have conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, asthma and heart conditions. Annual review by the doctor with regular follow-up with the nurse will be offered to these patients.
If you have diabetes you will be offered digital retinal screening to help protect your sight. It is important to be screened by this nationally accredited service in addition to your regular check up at the optician, even if they also take digital retinal photographs.
Minor Surgical Procedures
Joint injections and some minor operations are performed by the doctors, at our monthly Minor Operations Clinic. Referral is via your doctor. We also have a cryotherapy clinic, held once a month, on a Friday, at which some skin lesions can be removed by freezing. Access to this clinic must be via your doctor.
Advice and information, as well as a vaccination service are available from the nurses. We are a recognised Yellow Fever Centre (Goring Surgery).
General Nursing Care
This includes blood tests, dressings and care of minor injuries.
The midwife, runs a weekly clinic on Tuesdays, alternating between the Goring and Woodcote surgeries. She provides a comprehensive service of antenatal and postnatal care and believes in providing choice and information for new mothers. Antenatal appointments are also available with the doctors during their normal surgery hours.
Health Visitors and School Health Nurses
The health visiting team hold drop in child health clinics at Goring Surgery on the last Tuesday of each month between 1.30pm and 2.30pm and at Woodcote Library every Wednesday between 9.30am and 10.30am offering support, advice, information and weight checking.
